Description

Roman sarcophagus of Seia Marcellina, probably re-used as the tomb of Saint Mauro, before his translation to the cathedral. It reports the following funerary inscription: SEIA T(iti) F(ilia) MARCELLINA SIBI ET / VIBENNIO MARCELLINO FILIO / VIVA POSUIT. / QUOD VOLUIT ET POTUIT, QUOD POTUIT ET VOLUIT “Seia Marcellina, Titus’ daughter, erected (this sarcophagus) when she was still alive for herself and for her son Vibennius Marcellinus. She did what she could and wanted”.

Localisation

Church of Santa Maria di Monte Reale

Description

Cylindrical cippus made of tufa stone, currently used as a font. It is characterised by the following inscription: P(ublius) VERGESTO T(iti) F(ilius) / HIC SITUS EST “Publius Vergestus, son of Titus is here”.

Description

Inside the crypt, some stone materials and mosaics have been re-used. They are usually indicated as having a Roman origin, but probably they date back to the first phase of construction of the building, in the IX cent.
