HISTORICAL, CULTURAL AND LANDSCAPE DATA ABOUT THE CONTEXT

Ravenna is famous all over the world for its mosaics: the richest heritage in the world of ancient mosaics dating back to the V and IV cent. A.D., superior for their artistic quality and iconographic importance to those of any other town of the ancient and classic world. For these reasons, in 1996, Unesco has declared “World human heritage” the seven buildings of Ravenna with the famous mosaics, known by everybody: Galla Placidia’s Mausoleum, the Basilica of St. Vital, the Basilica of St. Apollinaris The New, the Neonian Baptistery, the Archbishop’s chapel, the Arian’s Baptistery, Theodoric’s Mausoleum, the Basilica of St. Apollinaris in Classe.
